AMK establishes Teachers Unit

 Language movement to be more vibrant, inclusive 

In an important step to involve all sections of society in its efforts for protection of Kashmiri language and literature,  Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK) today established its special support unit of teachers which will work to involve teacher community in the language movement of AMK.

Named as AMK Teachers Unit, this special support unit was established in a conference of teachers of the Valley organised by AMK in the Auditorium of SP Higher Secondary School Srinagar.  Though the conference proposed  Raheem Rehbar, Dr Shafaqat Altaf and Farooq Shaheen for the post of President, but later it unanimously elected Dr Shafaqat Altaf as President, Raheem Rehbar Vice-President and Dr Ghulam Nabi Haleem as General Secretary of the AMK Teachers Unit. Arsullah Habib was elected Media Secretary and Rohi Jan as Treasurer of the Unit. The Unit will establish its district sub-units in coming days, after which a teachers conclave will be held in Srinagar by the AMK.

Speaking on the occasion, noted litterateur Prof Muhammad Zaman Azurdah hailed the efforts of AMK for the protection and promotion of Kashmiri language. Terming the establishment of Teachers Unit is a historic step to promote the Kashmiri language, Prof Azurdah said it will  accelerate the efforts of promoting Kashmiri language academically. This is a movement which should be supported by all those Kashmiri speaking people who love their mother tongue and want to protect their identity, he maintained.

Appreciating the work of AMK to protect and popularise the Kashmiri language, former administrator and academician Aijaz Ahmad Kakroo said the inclusion of teacher community will go a long way in the promotion of Kashmiri language and literature.

AMK President Dr Aziz Hajni appreciated the teachers for their keen interest in joining hands with AMK for its language moment. He said after establishing its Delhi unit and another unit in Srinagar comprising civil society members, the Teachers Unit will strengthen the efforts of AMK to protect the Kashmiri language. With the active involvement of teacher community, AMK””s language movement will be more vibrant and inclusive, he said.

Announcing that AMK is going to further broaden its working, AMK general Secretary Dr Shujaat Bukhari said more support units will be established in Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and Kishtwar districts of the Jammu province. He said AMK””s efforts to sensitise different sections of society about their mother tongue are being welcomed and teachers community is taking a lead for this purpose.

President of the AMK Teachers Unit Dr Shafaqat Altaf  while thanking teachers for reposing their faith in him, vowed to work with zeal for the cause of Kashmiri language. Teachers are the brand ambassadors of any language, and I am sure we will efficiently work for the protection and preservation of our mother tongue, he said.

Ghulam Nabi Malik Kashmiri, President of PG Kashmiri Masters Forum announced to dissolve his organisation and extended support to the AMK Teachers Unit.

Besides members of AMK Executive and General Council, prominent poets and writers including Ayub Sabir, Muhammad Ahsan Ahsan, Shabir Hussain Banhali and Fareeda Shouq attended the event.
