AMK observes “Hanfi Sopori Day”

Inquire Sopori’s missing manuscripts of Quranic translation, tafseer”” In continuation of its efforts to highlight the contributions of literary personalities, Adbee Markaz Kamraz today observed “Hanfi Sopori Day” at Sopore. The literary event was organised in memory of noted poet and writer of Kashmiri language Hanfi Sopori. Eminent writer, critic and researcher Muhammad Yousuf Taing presided over the function while as Chief Information Commissioner G R Sofi was chief guest on the occasion. Director Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Rukhsana Jabeen, noted educationist Atiqa Bano, columnist Dr Javid Iqbal and president AMK Dr Aziz Hajni shared the presidium. Lauding the literary contributions of Hanfi Sopori, Taing in his presidential address underscored the need to publish the whole literary work of Hanfi Sopori. Expressing his anguish over the missing of the manuscript of Sopori’s Kashmiri translation and Tafseer (commentary) of Holy Quran, Taing termed it a grave issue while demanding an inquiry into the mystery. “I can provide some hints in this regard,” he disclosed. Taing lamented that government and its institutions have adopted a negligent approach vis-à-vis the Kashmiri language.

G R Sofi emphasised the need for collective efforts to promote Kashmiri language. “We are not conscious about our mother tongue and our national identity, which is a warning signal for our existence,” he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, AMK president Dr Aziz Hajni said the stopping of grant-in-aid to AMK and its constituents by the government has badly hampered the literary and cultural activities in the state. He said because of unknown reasons, some individuals in certain government organisations are not providing proper space and coverage to AMK activities. He announced that AMK is going to launch a comprehensive campaign to take the struggle for promotion and preservation of Kashmiri language to its logical conclusion.
Prof Mashal Sultanpori and Muhammad Yousuf Mashhoor presented papers on the life and literary contributions of Hanfi Sopori on the occasion.

Atiqa Bano made a public appeal asking to handover any manuscripts of Hanfi Sopori in whose possession they might be. She announced to form a committee to search for such manuscripts including the Kashmiri translation and tafseer (commentary) of Holy Quran by Hanfi Sopori. Prominent humorist Talha Jahangir spoke in his typical style about
the present state of Kashmiri language and culture. Popular folk singer Manzoor Ahmad Shah presented the Kalam of Hanfi Sopori on the occasion.

Taing was felicitated by AMK for his contributions to the Kashmiri language and literature.

Besides principal Degree college Sopore Prof Nasreen Malik , a galaxy of poets, writers and artists including Muhammad Ahsan Ahsan, Ranjoor Tilgami, Fayaz Tailgami, Zamir Ansari, Saad-ud-Din Saadi, Shahid Dilnavi, Mir Dardpori, Abdul Khaliq Shams, Hilal Dilnavi, Muhammad Amin Bhat and Aijaz Ahmad Kakroo were present on the occasion. Radio Kashmir Srinagar and Majlis-un-Nissa Sopore, a constituent of AMK, collaborated in organising the literary event.
