AMK opens Jammu sub office

Jammu, March 15: Adbee Markaz Kamraz, the biggest and oldest cultural organization of Kashmir opened its sub office in Jammu with a view to further its activities for promoting and protecting Kashmiri language and culture.

A function was organized in this connection here, which was attended, by a number of writers and scholars. It was presided over by Ayaz Rasool Nazki. The issues facing the language in Jammu region were discussed threadbare and it was resolved to renew the efforts to safeguard the interests of the language. The need was felt to pursue the introduction of language in the schools in Kashmiri speaking areas of Jammu and was decided to meet with Director School Education Jammu to achieve the objective.

The sub office with AMK vice president Shehnaz Rashid as its co-ordinator will work under the head office and will implement its decisions on the ground. Activities of AMK will be pushed further in Jammu region and close liaison will be maintained with Kashmiri writers and scholars.

In his inaugural address AMK General Secretary, Dr Syed Shujaat Bukhari said that AMK had constitutional bindings as for as its expansion is concerned but the activities can take place anywhere in the state. “Aim of this sub office is to provide platform to Kashmiri speaking people in Jammu especially the Kashmiri Pandits who have migrated since 1989,” he said adding that it will also revive the bonds between two communities at large.

On this occasion M L Kanwal Sopori, one of the founders of AMK hailed the decision and extended full cooperation in the activities. Besides him B L Bhat Arpan, Rajinder Aagosh, P N Prem, Tej Sagar (all from Kamraz) were enrolled as members of sub office while as Prem Nath Shad and Piyaray Hatash were co-opted as associates for the sub office.
