Two-day annual conference of Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK)

Two-day annual conference of Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK) was held in Kashmir College of Education at Model Town Sopore from October 3-4, 2009. It was attended by more than 300 writers, scholars, poets, academicians, journalists, teachers and students from all parts of Jammu and Kashmir state. It concluded with a pledge  to continue the struggle for preserving and protecting the Kashmiri language and culture which is facing onslaught from within and outside. Four awards and a Gold medal were also presented at the end of the conference.

A number of resolutions dealing with language and culture were also passed besides two Musharias in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Department of Information.

AMK’s this year’s highest award “Sharf-e-Kamraz” was given to prominent poet, educationist and writer Saifi Sopori while Khilat-e-Hanfi Sopori was given to Kashmir University Vice Chancellor Prof Riyaz Punjabi, Khateeb-o-Imam of Dargah Hazratbal Moulvi Bashir Ahmad Farooqi and Editor-in Chief Sangarmal Prof Syed Rafiuddin
Bukhari for their contribution in popularizing Kashmiri language. AMK Chairman and other functionaries honored Professor Bukhari by tying a special linen turban round his head. Khila’at-e-Hanfi Sopori is given by AMK in collaboration with Majlis un Nisa Sopore. All the awardees thanked AMK for conferring the awards and said that this organization was doing a yeoman’s service to Kashmiri language and culture. In his response Professor Bukhari said Sangarmal’s deputy editor Khursheed Qureshi deserved appreciation for his dedicated service to the newspaper. “In fact entire Sangarmal team especially Khursheed Qureshi deserves this award. He has been the engine behind this difficult project.”

In absence of Prof Punjabi, KU PRO Showkat Shafi recerived the award. Awards were presented by Secretary Academy Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Farooq Nazki and Kashmir College of Education chairman Abdur Rashid and Principal Prof Abdur Rahim were present. Citation were read by Syed Shujaat Bukhari and Zamir Ansari.

Nissar Ahmad Shah who secured first position in MA Kashmiri in 2007 bagged this year’s Mohi-ui-din Hajni Gold Medal. The Gold Medal was presented in collaboration Kashmiri weekly Sangarmal in presence of its Editor in Chief Prof Syed Rafiuddin Bukhari and Deputy editor Khurshed Quershi.

AMK announced that in collaboration with Kashmir College of Education Sopore two awards will be given to those securing first position in graduation and middle level while another award for the first positioner in Higher Secondary Part II (Kashmiri) will be sponsored by Dr Rafiq Masoodi and will be named after his father Ghulam Ahmad

Former Civil servant Aijaz Ahmad Kakroo presided over the resolution session in which various resolutions were move and passed. Dr. Rafique Masoodi moved the reoultion regarding the apppintment of Lecturees in Higher Secondery Schools and demand that Kashmiri should be made comlousory in the Schools of Jammu Province The second resolution was moved by Mashal Sultanpuri mentioning the establishment of Sub offices at Baramulla and Kupwara District, the resultion was redrafted and passed as the Serctrye Cultural Academy Zaffar Iqbal Manhas suggested that instead of Barmulla nad Kupwara the Sub ofcies should be steup in North and South Kashmir.

“Instead of Baramulla anad Kupwara,sub ofcies shold be set up in South and North Kashmir keeping the centrality of the state in view” said Manhas.

Third resolution was moved by Piyaray Hatash seeking attention of Chief Minster about the purchase of books of local Kashmir Authors. Several participants suggested that a separate buidget should be allocated for purchase of books by local authors.

Another resolution sought revival of Sheikhul Alam chair at Kashmir University also known as Markaz-e-Noor. A follow up committee was also constituted to pursue these matters.

Earlier in the late evening session on Saturday a session was conducted in which a short story by Majeed Majazi was analysed by Hassan Azhar. Farooq Nazki, Piyarey Hatash and Fida Rajourvi were in the presidium. Poem by M Y Mashhoor was analysed by Shehnaz Rashid. Both the papers generated heat and serious discussion followed the paper read by Shehnaz who claimed that there were only a few poets who could be mentioned as for as art of writing poem is concerned. Later a number writers including Dr Farooq Fayaz, Shad Ramzan, Showkat Shafi, G H Gamgin, Ali Illyas, Shafqat Altaf, Hasrat Gadda, Iqbal Faheem and Prof Zaman Azurdah spoke on a demand that AMK’s jurisdiction be extended outside north Kashmir. Responding to demand AMK president Aziz Hajini and general Secretary Syed Shujaat Bukhari said that a speciall session of AMK’s general body will be soon convened to discussus the issue.
